Lead With United Way!

Put your passion into action — and help shape what’s next.

Volunteering isn’t only about showing up for one day (though we love that too). If you’re looking for a deeper way to serve, joining a committee is one of the most meaningful ways to lead alongside United Way of the Lakeshore.

Our committees bring community members together to help guide strategy, strengthen programs, expand volunteer engagement, and build the partnerships that power local impact across Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana Counties.

What it means to “Lead” with United Way

Committee members help us:

  • Listen to community needs and spot emerging opportunities

  • Strengthen events and campaigns that fuel local impact

  • Build relationships with businesses, schools, and community partners

  • Improve the volunteer and donor experience

  • Bring new ideas to the table (and help turn them into action)

You don’t need a special title — just a willingness to show up, collaborate, and care about your community.

Lead With Us

Who committees are great for

Committees are a good fit if you:

  • Want to do more than a one-time volunteer shift

  • Enjoy teamwork, planning, problem-solving, and making things better

  • Care about issues like housing stability, childcare, literacy, and basic needs

  • Are looking for leadership experience (or a way to give back your skills)

  • Want to meet other community-minded people

Whether you’re a young professional, a longtime volunteer, a retiree, or someone new to the area — there’s a place for you here.

Time commitment

Most committees meet monthly or every other month, with the option to help more during big moments (like events, drives, or campaign season).

We’ll always be transparent about what’s expected before you say yes.

Ways to Lead:

Not ready to join — but want to stay in the loop?

That’s okay! Leadership journeys don’t have to start with a commitment.

You’re welcome to:

  • Attend a meeting as a guest

  • Express interest for future openings

  • Share what you care about and learn where you might fit

Meeting Calendar:

Our Board & Committee Meeting Calendar offers a transparent look at when United Way of the Lakeshore’s boards and committees meet throughout the year. This calendar is designed to help community members and volunteers explore leadership opportunities, learn how our organization works, and see where their interests may align.

Meetings listed here provide a window into the conversations shaping our work across Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana Counties. While not all meetings are open to attend, we welcome questions and interest from those who would like to learn more about board or committee service — now or in the future.

If you see a committee that sparks your interest, we encourage you to reach out to the listed contact to learn more about meeting details, expectations, and opportunities to get involved.
