PROGRAM

VOLUNTEER AS AN

EARLY LITERACY MENTOR

MAKE A BIG IMPACT IN JUST TWO HOURS A WEEK

Our Early Literacy Mentor program gives kids the reading support they need, right when they need it! Schools identify students who could use a little extra help, and these students spend 15 minutes a day with a mentor, following a specific reading plan that’s tailored to each school’s curriculum. Each mentor works 1-on-1 with multiple students over a 2-hour period, and a new mentor picks up with the same group the next day. This daily routine continues for about 10–12 weeks, after which we assess students’ progress to celebrate their growth and determine if they’re ready to graduate from the program.

Thanks to our incredible volunteers, students receive consistent, high-quality support every day. Volunteers are trained to use a scripted reading program developed by our school systems to ensure every student experiences the same routine, no matter which mentor they’re paired with. No teaching background is needed — just a commitment to 2 hours a week during the school day and a passion for helping young readers succeed!
