OCEANA MOBILE FOOD PANTRIES

Fresh food and staple items. No cost. Neighbors helping neighbors.

The Oceana County Mobile Food Pantry program brings a truckload of food directly into our communities, helping families access fresh produce, dairy, and other pantry staples at no cost.

This program is made possible through a strong partnership:

Feeding America West Michigan provides the food and Mobile Pantry program.

United Way of the Lakeshore supports local coordination, volunteer recruitment, and day-of logistics.

Local sponsors help underwrite the cost of each distribution so the community can show up and receive food with dignity and ease.

Volunteer With Us!

Volunteers are the reason this works. If you can lift, sort, pack, greet, or direct traffic, you can help.

Typical volunteer tasks:

  • Unload and stage food

  • Sort and pack items

  • Support family check-in flow

  • Direct vehicles and keep the line moving

  • Help clean up and break down

This does require long periods of standing and lifting of up to 30 lbs.

Sponsors and Thanks!

We are grateful to the partners who make this possible in Oceana County.

Primary sponsor (6 distributions):

  • Oceana Community Foundation through the Urgent Needs Fund

Sponsors (1 distribution each):

  • Hart Rotary Club

  • Shelby Rotary Club

  • Gray & Company

  • Shelby State Bank

Your support helps neighbors access nutritious food close to home and keeps this program consistent throughout the year.

FAQ:

  • Anyone who needs food support is welcome. Food is provided at no cost.

  • Many sites allow proxy pick-up (picking up for another household). Be prepared with the other household’s name, state of residency, and household size. Sites may limit how many households you can pick up for.

  • If you have it, bring:

    • A sturdy box or bags

    • A trunk that is cleared out for loading

    • Weather-appropriate clothing (lines are often outdoors)

  • It depends on the site. Your calendar listing should note whether each distribution is drive-thru or walk-up. Feeding America West Michigan schedules Mobile Pantries using both methods.

For all of the Mobile Food Pantry Distributions listed on this page - they will be drive-thru.

  • Feeding America West Michigan provides a Statement of Client Rights for neighbors visiting agency partners.

To our neighbors visiting our partner food pantries:

    • Feeding America West Michigan partner pantries serving the public are expected to serve everyone in need of food and are not permitted to turn anyone away without serving.

    • Civil Rights Information: You have the right to receive food for your household, regardless of your race, color, national origin, sex, gender (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity. To file a Civil Rights Complaint, fill out this form or call 1-866-632-9992.

    • Our partner pantries are not permitted to require documentation of income or residency (including photo ID) as a condition of receiving food. They may request this information, but you are not required to provide it in order to receive food. Be aware that this information may be required for other agency services.

    • Our partner pantries are allowed to establish service areas. However, if you live outside of a pantry’s service area, you can still receive food from that pantry at least one time if you are in need. You can expect to receive alternative options that are closer to your area.

    • You may visit a variety of food pantries and meal programs to receive the food you need in any given time period. There is no such thing as “double dipping.” However, each pantry can (and frequently does) limit the number of times (per month or week) you visit their pantry.

    • Please contact Claire Bode at 616.286.9977 or at claireb@feedwm.org for questions, or if you have been turned away by a pantry without receiving food.
