The Role of a Newaygo County Community Committee Member

Thank you for considering joining the Newaygo County United Way Community Committee!

Members are important to provide thought-leadership and expertise for the strategic direction of the organization, help connect United Way to other community leaders and organizations, advocate on behalf of community needs and solutions in education, income and health, focus on long-term sustainable support for United Way’s mission, and instill trust in United Way by working with energy and integrity to strengthen and protect the organization’s reputation for ethical leadership and community service.  In broad outline, the responsibilities include:

  1. To act as a trustee of United Way on behalf of its donors and/or funding sources.

  2. To determine local goals, objectives and strategies.

  3. To weigh in on policies, other general guidelines and limits for agency operation.

  4. To provide local accountability for agency branch operations.

  5. To recommend and evaluate programs sponsored by the agency in Newaygo County.

  6. To evaluate the results of the agency’s operation in Newaygo County.

  7. To provide financial support to the organization.

  8. To play a role in the effort to raise funds to support the mission.

  9. To serve on at least one work group (Volunteer Engagement/Impact Investments/Fundraising & Marketing/Operations).

  10. To regularly attend meetings.
