Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

Thousands of families across our community have been impacted by COVID-19. Although many have been able to return to work, not everyone has been able to be back on the job or recovery financially. It has been a hard year, but a resilient one! We have seen hundreds of volunteers step up and support our community with PPE, Food Banks, Clothing, and more. The holidays are right around the corner and we want to help you know what you can do to spread Christmas Cheer.

Salvation Army - Toy Sorting:

Help the Salvation Army sort and pack toys from the Toys for Tots drive for families in need. Volunteers will sort toys by age group and help pack boxes for families to pick up the following week. Find out more or sign up at

Salvation Army - Toy & Food Distribution:

Help load toys and food for families in need of a Christmas blessing! We will need 10 volunteers each shift from December 14 - 17th! Find out more or sign up at

Adopt A Working Family:

Adopting A Family is more interactive and personal than ever! On GetConnected our volunteer platform, we have created needs that describe each family. All families are anonymous until adopted and have been given a number. We then tell you the family size, and what makes up their family (example is #15 Family of 3 - Mom, 1 Son, 1 Daughter). To learn more or to sign up go to

American Red Cross:

Pop into their virtual open house anytime to learn more about the American Red Cross of West Michigan and about their volunteer opportunities.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing:

The bell-ringing season starts each November and runs through Christmas Eve when the red kettles are packed away for the season. Volunteers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $30 per hour - enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries or shelter an individual for a night.

Gift of Caring:

Don't Know What To Give That Special Someone This Year? Impact Your Community In Honor Of Them!
Here is how it works:
  • You decide to give a gift of giving in honor of your special someone (or yourself).
  • They receive a Holiday Certificate (click for examples) from you describing the generous contribution you've made in their honor.
Give The Gift Of Early Literacy! $25 sponsors a child in the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. This child will receive 1 book a month for an entire year! Give Comfort In Crisis! $25 gives 10 children the strength to say no and learn about how to prevent and report child abuse. Give A Shelter Through The Storm! $25 to our Emergency Needs & Shelter Fund can provide hygiene products for a family.
