Housing Case Manager

TrueNorth’s Housing Case Manager provides flexible, person-centered support to Muskegon County residents experiencing—or at imminent risk of—homelessness, especially ALICE households who often don’t qualify for rigid state/federal programs. The role covers street outreach and onsite navigation at partner locations; individualized housing plans; eviction prevention and landlord mediation; connections to employment, financial coaching, and benefits; and crisis problem-solving to secure and sustain stable housing. In the first six months of the Resilient Homes Initiative, the team helped 34 households (88 people) obtain or maintain housing and provided 3,900+ “soft-touch” navigations (referrals, crisis planning, and resource linkage).

This position also strengthens system capacity: United Way support lets TrueNorth serve edge cases quickly and meet match/flex requirements that unlock additional funding streams (e.g., HUD Rapid Re-Housing match, LEO workforce housing resources, Muskegon CDBG, and a pilot allowing billable services), expanding the number of families stabilized.

Alignment with United Way mission/priorities
The Housing Case Manager advances United Way of the Lakeshore’s Economic Mobility → Housing strategy and bold goal of helping 10,000 more working families meet basic needs by preventing homelessness, speeding re-housing, and building financial resilience for ALICE households. By combining direct casework with eviction prevention, workforce linkages, and financial literacy—and by leveraging UW funds to draw down larger public grants—the program reduces reliance on crisis systems, preserves family stability, and helps build a thriving, equitable community.
